Jing is a fun application to play with. If you've already installed Jing I hope it's been fun to poke around and peek at the different features. If you haven't installed Jing yet, here's an over-view of the features and how the thing works, or you can check out Jing's Quick Help Center.

First, visit the Jing website and download the free screen capture application. It can successfully work on computer systems running Mac OS X and Windows XP or higher. Once you have created images and videos using Jing, you'll have several available places to save the data. As a user, you can save your Jing-created projects to the local drive of your computer, a network drive, a Flickr account or even your Screencast.com account.

Then, click the "Download" button of the correct operating system you will be working with. After saving the file to your computer system, double click on it to open. After doing this, a pop-up window will appear for you to launch the application. Select the "Run" button to begin the installation process of the Jing screen capture application.

Place a check next to the "I Accept the Fine Print" button and then select the "Install" button to have the necessary files added to your computer system. Within a few minutes, the Jing application will start placing the needed files on your computer system. When everything has completed, click the "Finish" button to close the setup window.

Launch the Jing screen capture application. The first time you do so, a pop-up window will appear to tell you about providing feedback for the application. You can easily opt in or out by placing a check next to the "Sure, I'll Help You Make Jing Better." If you would rather not do this, uncheck this option. Click the "Continue" button to move forward in the setup process.

Enter a valid email address, username and password. Press the "Continue" button to finish the registration process. After doing this, a pop-up window will appear to let you know that the setup process is complete. Select the "OK" button to get started with the screen capturing. The Jing icon will appear in your system taskbar at the bottom of your screen and as a small icon at the top of your computer screen.

Right-click the Jing icon in your system taskbar. Several options will appear, such as Capture and History. Select the Capture option to begin using Jing for screencasts. As soon as you do this, a guide will appear for you to choose the screen settings for the Capture mode. Just drag it to the location on your display screen that you'd like to capture. Select whether it should be just an image or video screen capture. Once this has been done, Jing will start capturing the chosen area.

Click the "Stop" button in the pop-up window when you have completed the screen capture. You'll have a chance to watch a preview of the video and decide if you should keep it or not. If you decide that the screen capture is what you want, rename it by typing one next to the "Name" section at the bottom of the preview window.

Save the screen capture video by selecting Screencast.com, FTP, or File. After choosing the best one for your needs, click the "Save" icon. If you choose to have it added to your computer system, a pop-up window will appear. The file will be saved on your computer system in a "SWF" format. In order to successfully play this sort of a file on your computer system, you'll need to have Adobe Flash player installed. In order to save the screen capture video to Screencast.com, you'll need to set up an account with a set amount of storage. This can be done by visiting the homepage and then clicking "Sign Up." Follow the onscreen directions to complete the registration process.
